How does it occur?
Before you start removing rust from your car, it is important to know how rust forms. Rust on a car is the result of a chemical reaction between iron, oxygen, and water. This is also known as corrosion. Cars generally have metal parts, such as bodywork and chassis. When oxygen comes into contact with the iron in the metal, in combination with water, an electrochemical reaction (also called rust formation) occurs. This process is known as oxidation. During oxidation, iron atoms lose electrons and are converted into iron ions (Fe²⁺). These electrons are transferred to oxygen molecules, forming oxygen ions (O²⁻). The iron ions and oxygen ions further react to form iron oxide (Fe₂O₃), which we know as rust. Rust tends to spread and can damage the metal surface of the car if it is not removed in time.
Step-by-step plan for removing rust from your car
For removing rust from your car, we distinguish between two tasks: removing rust from the paintwork and removing rust from the undercarriage and engine compartment.
Removing rust from the paintwork
Step 1. Ensure a cold car Before you start, it is important to park the car out of the sun and let it cool down. Step 2. Claying your car To remove rust from the paintwork, it is important to start by claying the car. You can do this with the Stipt Iron Remover and our clay towel, the Stipt 3D Clay Towel. Spray the paint with the Stipt Iron Remover and then clay the surface with a wet clay towel.
Step 3. Rinse the car
Then rinse the car with water before you start cleaning.
Step 4. Clean the car
Now that you have removed the rust from the paintwork, it's time to clean the car. You can do this with the Stipt Perfect Shampoo and the Stipt Grit Bucket Set.
Step 5. Rinse the car
After cleaning the car with the Stipt Perfect Shampoo, you can rinse the car. Preferably do this with a high-pressure washer, but a garden hose will also suffice. Then dry the car with a professional drying towel, preferably the Stipt King Dry Towel or the Stipt Dry Towel XXL.
Removing rust from the undercarriage and engine compartment
For removing rust from the undercarriage and engine compartment, you can use the Stipt Real Effective Cleaner in combination with the Stipt Detail Brushes.
Step 1. Ensure a cold car
Before you start, it is important to park the car out of the sun and let it cool down.
Step 2. Mist the surface
Mist the surface with the Stipt Real Effective Cleaner and then clean it using the Stipt Detail Brushes. This set consists of an iron, brass, and plastic brush. Depending on how thick the rust is on the part, you can use the brass or steel brush. The steel brush is the most powerful brush, which you can recognize by its silver 'hairs'. The brass brush can be recognized by its golden 'hairs' and ensures that dirt is removed without affecting the iron and aluminum. The nylon brush can be recognized by its black hairs and is therefore the least powerful brush.
Step 3: Repeat if necessary
It may be necessary to repeat the previous step multiple times.
Step 4: Rinse the car
Once all rust has been removed from the desired part, it is important to rinse the car thoroughly with water. Also, keep the part wet in between if it has been sprayed with the Stipt Real Effective Cleaner, to prevent it from drying out.
Step 5: Wash the car with car shampoo
When the car is thoroughly rinsed, it is necessary to wash the parts/car with our car shampoo, the Stipt Perfect Shampoo, and the Stipt Grit Bucket Set.
Step 6: Rinse and dry the car
After washing the car, you can rinse it again. Then you should dry it with one of our drying towels, preferably the Stipt King Dry Towel.
How to prevent rust on your car?
Now that you have made your car rust-free using our step-by-step plan, you naturally want to prevent the rust from returning. You can do this by washing your car regularly. In addition, you can protect your car's paint with the Stipt Wax Shield. Make sure the paint is thoroughly dry and clean before applying the Stipt Wax Shield with the accompanying applicator pad. Rub out the Stipt Wax Shield with the Stipt Wax Towel. Due to its extremely high hydrophobic content, water and dirt don't stand a chance, as the Stipt Wax Shield repels all liquids. Please note: The Stipt Wax Shield is not suitable for matte and matte wrapped cars. To coat your matte car, it is best to use the Stipt Ceramic Wax and polish it out with the Stipt Wax Towel. To prevent rust on the undercarriage, we recommend using our Stipt 2K Coating. You can apply this coating as an extra protective layer for the wheel arches and the bottom of your car. The high-gloss transparent protective layer provides very high resistance to chemicals, gasoline, and weather influences. Please note! The Stipt 2K Coating is not suitable for the exhaust and other parts that get hot. We also advise you to cover the tread of the brake disc.
